Virginia A. Byrd, PT
Virginia A. Byrd P.T. is a native of Santa Fe. She is the founder of Wellness Works Physical Therapy, LLC., with over 40 years of physical therapy experience and certified in level 1,2 and functional dry needling. In 1982 she graduated from the University of New Mexico with a degree in Physical Therapy. Virginia has extensive experience as both a clinician and clinical director. She was a minority owner in a physical therapy private practice, director of a hospital-based outpatient physical therapy department, and director of several multi-location outpatient clinics. Most recently, for the past 17 years, Virginia has been a clinician in Santa Fe, New Mexico with a local following of physicians and patients. She is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association, the Private Practice Section, the Health Policy and Administration Section, Chamber of Commerce, a Rotarian, an avid USTA tennis player and a volunteer at many community and philanthropic events, including Pancakes on the Plaza. |
Bridget Gioiello-Tarling, PT, DPT
Bridget received her Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science from California State University, Los Angeles, and her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Pacific University in Oregon. She has experience in treating patients with chronic pain, orthopedic injuries, and neurologic disorders. She is LSVT-BIG certified for Parkinson's Disease treatment, and has completed her training in Level 1 Functional Dry Needling. Bridget also specializes in women's pelvic floor treatment. Bridget became fascinated with human movement in high school, where she took her first anatomy class. Since then, she has participated in cross country running, bodybuilding, CrossFit, powerlifting, Zumba, and pilates. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, knitting, reading, and watching TV with her 2 dogs and husband. She also loves all things related to food. |
Zoie Hensley, DPT
Zoie was born and grew up in Taos, New Mexico before attending Tennessee Technological University for a B.S. in Exercise Science graduating in 2018. She went on to earn her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from High Point University in NC graduating in 2022. Zoie is thrilled to be back in New Mexico to give back to her community, enjoy hiking and climbing, and be closer to family. Zoie has experience in treating a wide variety of orthopedic and neurological conditions. She has a passion for helping clients with fall prevention. Zoie enjoys treating chronic pain patients utilizing effective, research based pain neuroscience treatments. Multiple certifications including Dry Needling 1 (2022) and Mulligan Mobilization with Movement for the spine and lower extremities (2023). Zoie grew up playing competitive soccer and has battled a multitude of injuries and surgeries herself. This has greatly motivated her to advocate for her clients for optimal care. She can truly empathize with you and help you manage how pain can affect all facets of one’s life. Outside of the clinic, Zoie enjoys painting & drawing, lifting weights, and doing almost anything in nature. |
Jeff Cooke, DPT
Jeff received his Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science from West Chester University, PA in 2013, and his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from University of St. Augustine for the health sciences in San Marcos, CA in Dec 2016. He worked at Wellness Works Physical Therapy for 5 years prior to becoming a traveling physical therapist to pay off his extensive student loans for 2 years. Jeff traveled to Bishop California in the eastern sierras, Joshua tree in southern California, and the mountains of Colorado. He has since returned back home to Santa Fe, NM working with us again. Jeff specializes in treating orthopedics. Neck, low back, shoulders, and knees, he is ready to help. He will assess your full body functional movement and not just the body part that hurts, in order to maximize your recovery. Jeff is a certified functional dry needling specialist through evidence in motion. He incorporates mindfulness based stress reduction for chronic pain patients and looks at the whole picture including the biological, psychological, and social aspects of pain to get to the root of your pain and find a solution together. When not at work Jeff enjoys rock climbing, hiking, being in the outdoors, and engages in a meditation practice in his free time. |
Valerie Wittmeier Morgenstern PT, DPT
Valerie graduated from Creighton University with Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 1997 which was a great addition to her Master of Science in Exercise Physiology from Colorado State University. This combination allowed her to quickly advance into orthopedic sport medicine working with young and old athletes on strengthening for sport or weekend warrior activities. As back pain affects so many, she attended multiple education classes and training courses for treatment, as well as core strengthening to stabilize the spine (incorporating traditional isometrics as well as Yoga and Pilates techniques). She is well trained in the bodies myofascial connections and has several manual techniques used in her therapy treatments. Over her many years as a physical therapist she achieved specialty training in Bone Fit for osteoporosis, Parkinson’s BIG Program, Fall Prevention Programs, Vestibular Dysfunctions and Treatments, and the Academy of Geriatrics Expert in Exercise for Aging Adults. When not working or attending an education course, Valerie enjoys being outside going camping and hiking with her husband and 2 dogs and winter snow shoe or ski. Hobbies include gardening (flowers and vegetables), cooking and learning how to use food for health. |
Denise Wojcik, MPT
Denise is an accomplished physical therapist and has lived in New Mexico since 2004. She received her Bachelor of Science from Boston College in 1999 and a Masters of Physical Therapy from Sacred Heart University in 2002. Having worked primarily in outpatient orthopedic clinics throughout her career, Denise treats a wide range of conditions and injuries, specializing in musculoskeletal and movement dysfunction. She is certified in Level 1 and 2 Functional Dry Needling (since 2009) and Level 3 (since 2015). Denise is extensively trained in manual therapy, neuromuscular reeducation, therapeutic exercise techniques, vestibular rehabilitation (including Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV)), Temporal Mandibular Joint (TMJ) dysfunction, and Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA) screening. She is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). And as such, she takes to heart the art and science of her profession by regularly attending continuing education courses and vigorous self-study. Outside of physical therapy, Denise enjoys the natural beauty of the southwest through mountain biking, and working with her husband in their orchard and gardens. Cross country skiing and snowboarding are among her winter pastimes and traveling to kiteboard in warmer climates. Denise is passionate about her career and empowering each client to achieve their optimum state of health and to maintain a life of physical wellness. |
Gretchen Johnson, PT
Gretchen is a native of Western Colorado and has over 30 years of experience as a Physical Therapist and Athletic Trainer. She obtained a BS in Athletic Training from Minnesota State, Mankato in 1985, and an MS in Physical Therapy from University of Indianapolis in 1987. She has lived in Santa Fe since 1988. Certifications include: certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) since 1986, Level 1 and 2 Dry Needling through Therapy Concepts in Denver, CO, Integral Yoga for Beginner, Intermediate, Prenatal and Postpartum Yoga, and Yoga Therapy through the International Association of Yoga Therapists (C-IAYT). She formerly owned Mother Moves Prenatal and Postpartum Yoga and Wee Play Children’s Developmental Play businesses in Santa Fe. Her Physical Therapy interests include Orthopaedics, Geriatrics, Performing Arts and Women’s Health. She is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association, is a former chair of the New Mexico APTA chapter’s Legislative Committee, and is currently on the APTA’s Academy of Orthopaedics Professional Practice Committee. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, backpacking, and being outdoors with her family, as well as traveling and knitting. She is an avid musician, playing flute and piccolo with High Desert Winds, the Santa Fe Concert Band and various flute ensembles. She is very honored to collaborate with the dynamic group of professionals at Wellness Works. |
